We will have to wait one more day than usual this year to get to March, because of leap day on Feb. 2 9. However, The Old Farmer’s Almanac points out that leap day will cause the equinoxes and solstices to occur earlier this year than in any other year since 1896. For instance, calendar spring, the vernal equinox, will occur at 1:14 a.m. on March 20, “marking the earliest start of spring in 116 years,” the almanac says.
